Aloe vera (/ˈæloʊiː/ or /ˈæloʊ/) is a succulent plant species of the genus Aloe. (wikipedia)
Hey there! This month's installment of "Our Plants" is my precious Vera, as I call her (best nickname ever, right?). We purchased this beauty at a greenhouse outside of Jefferson City, which also happens to have the coolest bakery/general store. I don't remember the name, but as it's about to be plant shopping season, you'll hear more about it soon! I picked the plant out and Brett re-potted it and the other little baby sprouts of another Aloe Vera plant that was growing off of this one. That little guy has actually flourished quite a bit, due to Brett's green thumb. Although, it's still not as big as this one. A part of me wants to break open the leaves, when needed, to treat sun burns over the summer (I'm very pale, it's just life LOL), but the bigger part of me says I can never touch the leaves or I'll hate myself. Maybe I can use the little one for medicinal uses, and keep this one just to look at? I'll consider that, but until then, lets just all enjoy the beauty of Vera.
