Mom Style: Transitioning into Spring

Hey there! I thought it would be fun to try out this trend for spring, considering it's essential to layer in my neck of the woods. Missouri's spring weather is usually a bit rainy and stormy, with warm days and chilly nights. So far this spring, Mother Nature has also thrown in some crazy wind! So fun! LOL

Anyways, I still wanted to get some use out of my turtleneck, but also wanted to wear this super pretty dress my parents got me for Christmas (<3 you guys!). In the past, this would have been quite the conundrum, but this new-ish way of layering was the perfect option.

This would also be awesome to wear in the fall, since that weather is pretty similar to our spring weather. I had to add my hat to the look too, because in a few weeks it will be too warm to wear it! Not to worry though, I plan on investing in a straw boater hat to tide my hat need over until fall rolls around again.

I probably won't be doing this trend in the summer, that season can be pretty sweltering, and I definitely won't need the extra layer. This was super fun to try out for the moment though! You can do this technique with a t-shirt and camisole or slip dress, or a strapless top with another t-shirt. The possibilities are really just up to the wearer!

I love this shot, not really sure why though. Probably because of the hat. I don't have many portraits, and I feel like this one is cool enough that I can look back on it in 30 years and be like "Ya, I was cool". It will most likely be framed. Have a great Thursday, everyone!

To Go to the Movies

VSCO Cam-3.jpg

Hi all! A couple of weeks ago, we hired a babysitter (for the first time, ever) and went to the movies with Brett's family. While Bailey is a wonderful toddler, she's still not ready to keep quiet in a dark movie theater for two hours. It would be torturous for all parties involved, including Bailey. The sitter was so sweet and nice, and Bailey loved her. It was an overall great first experience, aside from my unshakable and never ending mommy worries. Those can't be helped and will never go away, but I am happy to report that they are easy to subdue. I can still be happy and function normally without being crippled by all of my fears. All you have to do is tell yourself that #1, the chance of anything happening out of the ordinary is very low (be rational here) and #2, if something does happen, you, being the mommy, will be the first to know, and can swoop in easily.

Reminding myself of these things keeps me sane and lets me enjoy what I'm doing in the moment. No need to worry until there is a need to worry. The point of this rant though, is that we went out! It was still unseasonably warm, and looking at these photos is making me wish I could wear something like that right now without freezing my bum off. I could wear this, but I would have to add an outer layer, and at this point in the season, that's depressing. However, I thought I should go ahead and share my version of a casual date night outfit, even if it's technically more appropriate for fall and spring temps. I love my hat, cardigan, and shoe combo. I wear them like this most of the time. Of course, I had to bring my huge tote for candy stowing purposes. Again, I really wish I could be wearing this right now. Time to go put 15 layers on just to walk to my car. Happy winter everyone!

What We're Loving, #4

Hi readers! It's Monday, so you know that means its What We're Loving day! Winter's starting to stick its head out of the ground and I think I'll be O.K. with it, as long as I'm prepared (hence the socks and hat). I literally don't take these socks off when I'm at home. We are both loving the Greek yogurt! They were cast offs from Brett's wisdom teeth experience, he's not a yogurt fan. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is excellent so far, I can see why it's a classic! Hope you all have an excellent week, happy Monday!

Wearing: My favorite socks/the only hat she can't remove in 3 seconds.
